Is kitsch dead? Hmm…that’s a hard one. Some people would definitely say yes. Others will defend their loon collection to its death. I’m kind of in the middle. You can overdo it, but I believe that about anything. You can have too much leopard print, modern art, or wood details in a room as well. For example, my sister-in-law thinks I have too many suitcases. A couple more and she could very well be right!

If there weren’t a hint of cottage kitsch, then wouldn’t you feel like you were just hanging out at a friend’s house? The point of “cottaging” is to feel like you’ve gone somewhere different. Sure, looking out the window of your cottage to the beautiful landscape will do that, but so will antlers hanging from the ceiling in a beautiful hand-crafted chandelier.

My goal at the Fall Cottage Life Show is to show you how you can mix and match kitsch and non-kitsch to create a vibrant, current, and eclectic space. I want to give you inspiration to go back to your cottage and reconsider all of those old paddles or animal carvings that your grandfather has kept over the years and give kitsch a chance!
When you head to the Fall Cottage Life Show, bring in pictures of the cottage things you don’t know what to do with and I will help you find a way to keep the kitsch. If it really won’t work, I promise to be really nice about it. See you at the Show!
