Flood levels in Ontario’s cottage country have passed record highs. Floodwaters have submerged highways and dozens of residents have been forced to evacuate their homes. Seven communities have declared states of emergency. Huntsville and Kawartha Lakes are especially hard hit.
A CBC report states that residents who had witnessed floods in the area before, have never seen water levels this high.
Thankfully dry weather is expected for the next 48 hours and will hopefully alleviate some of the flooding.
However extensive damage has already occurred.
Huntsville Mayor Claude Doughty, who declared a state of emergency for Huntsville on Friday, says it will take months and millions of dollars to repair the damage done to roads in the area.
Flood warnings are still in effect for parts of northern Ontario including areas of North Bay and Parry Sound.
