The main building features a steel roof and cedar board and batten siding. Off the spacious deck, glass sliding doors lead to the dining area in the main room. While the Muskoka chairs offer some cozy seating, we’d also add a big dining table for alfresco meals in the summer months.

Inside, the space feels light and airy thanks to the white walls, high ceilings, and the minimal trusses. This dining area is attached to the kitchen, which features a bar-style concrete countertop and built-in shelves to store cookbooks. Here is one of the house’s two wood-burning fireplaces. We love the wooden perch and the wall cut-out.

Here’s a closer look at the kitchen. Rather than closed upper cabinets, the homeowners opted for open shelves that show off their colourful ceramics and keep pots and pans at the ready. The dark stone backsplash is a nice contrast to the olive green cabinets and the warm brown countertops.

In the living area, the main focal point is this gorgeous concrete fireplace, while the surrounding decorative plates look like artwork. Since the kitchen is partially enclosed by drop ceilings, the living area is connected to the kitchen while still feeling like two distinct rooms.

Along one of the walls there’s a huge built-in bookshelf. The olive green cabinets and area rug feel traditional, but the cool leather armchairs, funky lamp, and sculptural coffee table look very modern.

This house is filled with plenty of cozy corners, like this little reading nook that’s layered with blankets. It also has a fantastic view of the surrounding woods.
