Watch a fawn fail terribly (but adorably) at kicking a ball

For a child, a colourful rubber ball is one of life’s great pleasures—and apparently this isn’t exclusive to humans. When this baby deer’s human friends introduce him to a small blue ball, he literally jumps for joy, chasing it as it rolls across the grass, even trying to kick it.

His dribbling skills leave something to be desired, of course. The deer, named Fonzie by the people he befriended at the park, only manages to connect his spindly leg with the ball once, and otherwise mostly dances around it. He just can’t seem to figure out how this mysterious object works. But his wiggles of happiness more than make up for his deficient dribbling.

Besides, while this baby deer may not be the most adept at ball-handling, he’s still destined to be a track and field star. As an adult, he’ll be able to sprint at speeds of up to 35 miles per hour and jump up to 10 feet in the air while running. Not too shabby.

For now, though, Fonzie is happy to merely try to play ball with his human friends, leaping after it and epically missing. But hey, that’s what happens when your eyes are on either side of your head.
