The polar ice caps are slowly melting, and as this once-permanent reserve of frozen freshwater melts into the sea, it will have a significant impact on the world, changing weather patterns and raising the sea level.
It is unclear what we can do in the short term to reverse this change, but many concerned environmentalists have been working hard to document the process, in the hopes of figuring out a plan.
The following gallery taken by photographer Daniel Beltrá includes some incredibly beautiful images of ancient ice giving way to the changing temperatures, and the stunning visual effects of the melting ice flowing into the sea.
