Peckish porcupine digs into a Halloween feast

Watch your basket of pumpkins when Teddy Bear the talking porcupine is near. Teddy is a minor YouTube celebrity that sounds like he’s talking when he eats.

According to Teddy’s Facebook page, he was discovered as an orphan in a barn in West Texas. After a rancher nursed him for a few days, he was taken to Zooniversity in Dallas. Zooniversity owner and wildlife enthusiast Allison now takes Teddy to local schools and library to teach people about porcupines.

The squeaking sounds Teddy makes sound suspiciously like attempts at communication, but are just noises that these animals make while eating. It’s a safe bet that if he could talk, he would probably say, “Thanks for the feast!”

While porcupines appear cute and cuddly, their quills, which act as a defense against predators, can cause a lot of damage. Many a dog has learned the hard way that getting too close to these critters can have painful consequences. It’s always best to respectfully admire wildlife from a distance, no matter how adorable they are.
