Orca-themed submarine makes for a killer ride

Got a spare $90,000? You could own your very own Killer Whale Submarine. What at first seems like a pretty silly gimmick appears to be an awesome little two-person watercraft, as the promotional video shows.

Not only can the submarine travel along or below the surface, its operator is able to “jump” out of the water, as breaching whales do.

According to the manufacturer’s website, the Killer Whale Submarine offers a unique boating experience: “A pilot protected beneath its watertight 1/2″-thick acrylic canopy pushes and pulls twin control levers to articulate the whale’s pectoral fins for rolls and stealthy dives. With a finger on the right lever’s throttle trigger, steering is provided by dual foot pedals that control the vectored thrust of the craft’s 255-hp supercharged Rotax axial flow engine, enabling realistic behaviors such as porpoising or skyhopping.”

Pretty neat. Its top speed while hydroplaning on top of the water is 50 mph, and underwater it enjoys a 25 mph cruising speed.

Other features include a speedometer, tachometer, engine and air pressure gauges, and an LCD that displays live video from the dorsal fin’s built-in camera. If you’ve got deep pockets you can get one of these remarkable machines for yourself by calling 1-800-227-3528 for more details.
