Swans are famous for being one of the most romantic birds. These big, beautiful avians mate for life, and fiercely protect their young. Of course, so do Canadian geese, but their feathers are not nearly as striking as the all-white swan.
We showed you a video recently of a swan whose beak became frozen shut, which was an unfortunate side-effect of a cold winter. However, the swans in this video brought on their own problems when a steamy make-out session went too far. Their long, graceful necks became a liability when the two became entangled, swimming in circles as they struggled to separate.
This is an obviously fatal problem. Without their ability to extend their mouths to the lake bottom to graze, the swans would quickly starve to death. Luckily, a bystander was able to untangle the swans, which is extra brave considering their state of agitation and the fact that swans can deliver a pretty painful nip when aggravated.
The story ends well, and the swans will live to love another day. But we hope that they learn from this close call, and in the future keep the necking to a minimum.
Have you ever had a run-in with a swan? We’d love to hear about it in the comments!
