Before you fire up this video, you should know that there is some mild NSFW language from an excitable passenger. But when you see what he saw, you probably won’t blame him for letting a couple cusses slip out.
Tony Flanders and friends were cruising along the coast of Alaska, cutting through Resurrection Bay, when they saw a truly spectacular sight. A pod of humpback whales emerged from the deep in a feeding frenzy. Whales will sometimes hunt in groups to increase efficiency, and the large mass of aquatic life is truly a sight to behold.
In no danger from the massive mammals, the boaters watch in awe as a big group of the whales churn the waters near their boat. While a group effort from this pod could probably sink their vessel, whales are known to be friendly and curious animals, more interested in communicating with us than harming us.
Passenger Brad Rich reflected on his once-in-a-lifetime experience, saying “I knew that humpbacks do this group feeding, so I knew what was happening as soon as it happened. But to be in the middle of that, to actually experience that as [opposed] to just watching it, it was the most awe-inspiring thing, it’s the most amazing thing to have ever happened to me.”
