Darlis Elliot of Eagle River, Alaska, is used to moose and bears wandering into her backyard—but she’s not used to her cat scaring them off.
Last Sunday, Elliot was filming a large black bear that had wandered up to her home’s back door when the two-year-old house cat, Nani, aggressively lunged towards the animal. Luckily, a pain of glass prevented the cat from sinking her claws into the poor creature, but the bear was sufficiently frightened and quickly ran off.
Elliot told local TV channel KTUU-TV that while she and her family were surprised by Nani’s actions, “we were more surprised that it scared [the bear] enough to fall off the porch.”
