Black bear rescues stranded cub from dangerous highway traffic

Ricky Forbes chases storms for a living, so he’s no stranger to witnessing epic natural events. But while driving through Kootenay National Park, he managed to capture what he considers the “coolest thing he’s ever seen”: a black bear rescuing her stranded cub.

“We saw the mama bear stick its head over the barrier to save its young from its dangerous predicament,” said Forbes. Effortlessly, the cub’s mother grasps it by the scruff of its neck and pulls it over the highway divide to safety.

It is a great example of how dedicated black bears are to raising their cubs, and of the ongoing struggle for wildlife to adapt to human development.
