Watch this soothing footage of ice stacking on Lake Superior

If you’re looking for a moment of zen this weekend, check out this two-minute video of ice shattering on the shores of Lake Superior.

Dawn LaPoint of Duluth, Michigan shot the footage while on a trip to nearby Canal Park this past weekend. When she noticed the ice pulling away from the shore, she headed down to the beach to capture it on camera.

“The seemingly endless ice sheets broke into large plates and stacked on shore, sounding much like breaking glass,” LaPoint wrote on YouTube.

The ice stacking likely occurred because of this year’s mild winter. Combine that with a sharp dip in temperature and strong winds, and you have the perfect recipe for this natural phenomenon.
