While wildlife sightings are part of normal, daily life in Newfoundland’s Northern Peninsula, no one was expecting this long-toothed visitor.
On Monday afternoon, news spread that a walrus had appeared in White Cape Harbour, just outside of Saint Lunaire-Griquet. Rarely seen this far south, excited photographers and nature lovers flocked to the site, some scaling the ice to get a closer look while others hung back to look through binoculars.

“Every now and then he’d poke up and just lie back down again,” Ruby Taylor Peyton, told CBC. “Pretty cool.”
