Mechanic Tod Anderson has turned a Smart car into a snow-worthy vessel by replacing the wheels with a couple of skis and ATV tracks.
The Ottawa-area man was inspired by the region’s fierce winters, and came up with the idea a few years ago. It wasn’t until the past November, however, that Anderson finished upgrading the vehicle.
While it’s not legal to drive it on any roads, the Smart-mobile is completely functional and can reach up to 65 km/h. According to Anderson, it’s the ideal model for this kind of retrofitting:
“The car is just kind of made for [snowmobile conversion], being rear-engine and rear-wheel drive. I just had to try it out,” he told the Ottawa Citizen.
The car may not be allowed on the roads, but it would sure be a cozy way to travel cross-country.
