Moose chases and pummels a truck with its hooves

A female moose can weigh up to 1,080 pounds, and bull males are even heavier. Which explains why every year, motorists lose their lives because of moose collisions. At that weight, it’s the equivalent of hitting a wall. In fact, any North American knows that moose are to be given the utmost respect, perhaps even more than bears or wolves.

Bears and wolves, while formidable and dangerous, generally avoid humans unless absolutely necessary. However, come mating season, female moose protecting their calves will attack anything that moves. Even cars.

Apparently, the driver in this video was just trying to ease past a moose and its offspring and continue down the road. According to the description, “Each time we would try to sneak by her, she would get aggressive. Finally she rammed the truck.”

The driver is rightfully shocked, and screams as the moose begins striking the hood with its front hooves. He backs up, but the moose has clearly decided this is a fight to the finish.

Luckily, there’s a limit to how much damage the angry animal can do to a stopped vehicle, but certainly the hood and bumper will need repairs. If you find yourself in a similar situation, take some time to pull over and enjoy the majesty of nature, rather than trying to pass by. Your car will thank you for it.
