The world according to Spell-Check

Guest post by Jackie Davis, assistant editor.

The spelling-checker in Microsoft Word, while sometimes useful, doesn’t recognize words and names that often come up in Cottage Life magazine. For example, it thinks deputy editor Martin Zibauer should be “Martin Zippier,” “Martin Libeler,” or “Martin Soberer.” Good effort, spell-check! Too bad you’re so epically incorrect.

Other examples:

Muskoka
Spell-check suggests: Mascara

Cottaging
Spell-check suggests: Cottoning

Biffy
Spell-check suggests: Buffy

S’more
Spell-check suggests: O’Mara

Tim Hortons
Spell-check suggests: Tim Hotrods
