Nova Scotia woman captures adorable video of her cat playing with a fawn

A tabby cat from Bible Hill, Nova Scotia, is getting attention online after his owner caught a video of him playing with a deer.

The cat’s name is Benoit, and according to his owner, Corena Saunders, he’s befriended lots of wild animals in the past.

Saunders, who works in healthcare, often shares stories of her one-and-a-half-year-old tabby with clients, and now that she’s captured one of his adventures on video, they can witness it.

“The mama and her twin babies came up and Ben decided that he was going to play with the little girl again and they’re chasing each other around the backyard,” Saunders told CBC’s Mainstreet.

In the video, which has garnered thousands of views, you can see the cat boldly approach the fawn. They prance around for a minute and then the fearless tabby chases the young deer.

Saunders told CBC that she and her boyfriend have dubbed Benoit the “animal whisperer,” because of his ability to make friends with other species, including pheasants, skunks, and even other birds.

Saunders says that he’s often close to birds, but he won’t eat them.

“He lays on the ground, he lays on the fence, and the blue jays, the woodpeckers, the chickadees, they’re all around when he’s there,” she told CBC

It’s abnormal to say the least. Numerous reports have revealed that cats kill billions of birds each year, and Benoit has access to about a dozen feeders scattered throughout their backyard.

Luckily, his antics haven’t got him into any trouble. Although the cat is free to roam, Saunders says he’s always home for his 9 p.m. curfew, so he doesn’t get eaten by a hungry fox.
