Norwegian comedy music duo Ylvis took the internet by storm last year with their catchy song “The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)” which racked up millions of views. Regardless of whether you’re a fan of that tune, you might enjoy their follow-up single, which is essentially a love letter to cottagers.
The video begins with a female worker in a cold, sterile office building, who clicks on an email attachment called “The Cabin.mov.”
What follows is probably one of the funniest music videos ever written about cottage life.
The singer serenades his companion, imploring her to come visit his cottage. He attempts to entice her with details that should be familiar to any cabin-dweller, bragging about the 15 types of cutlery, skis on the wall, and a deck of 49 playing cards (plus one joker).
The song is also full of hilarious details about cottage life, such as the lyric: “Right now it’s icy cold, but in sixteen hours it’s gonna be hot!”
While it’s clear that this video is firmly tongue-in-cheek, it’s nice to see that Norwegians seem just as passionate about cottaging as Canadians.
