Every good Canadian loves a game of pick-up hockey, no matter where it is, but nothing can compare to playing outside.
Outdoor rink conditions aren’t always perfect, and you definitely can’t count on a zamboni to clean off the lake, but it’s hardly a trade-off. There’s nothing like getting a dose of fresh air and exercise while spending time with friends surrounded by snow-covered fields, valleys, and even mountains. When your cheeks have that feel-good sting and you’re out of breath from skating for the puck that missed the net or laughing about that body check into the snow bank, it’s about more than just the game—though getting a little competitive never hurts either.
Unfortunately, some parts of Canada are still waiting on winter, and temperatures don’t seem to be dropping any time soon. If you’re anything like us, you’re refreshing Environment Canada’s weather report every 10 minutes to find out when winter will finally arrive. We don’t mean to torture you with these photos, but maybe it’s time we all have a serious talk with Mother Nature.
Who else is ready to get on the ice?
