It’s blueberry time, and here are eight reasons to indulge yourself. Eating blueberries may:

1. Boost memory

Drinking blueberry juice for 12 weeks improved memory in older adults.

2 . Protect against heart disease

A blueberry diet reduced narrowing of the blood vessels in lab rats.

3. Shrink that gut

Rats that ate blueberry powder lost belly fat, even while on a high-fat diet.

4 . Cut cholesterol

Pigs fed blueberries had lower cholesterol. (Hey, could this make bacon healthier?)

5. Reverse age-related decline

Blueberry and other fruit and veggie extracts improved the motor skills of older rats.

6. Reduce hyperglycemia

Eating blueberry compounds alleviated symptoms of hyperglycemia in diabetic mice.
