A scavenger hunt for boaters
Ever since I was little, I’ve had an unreasonable fondness for scavenger hunts. As I’ve admitted before, I’d put together elaborate treasure hunts at the cottage involving compasses and counting strides, riddles, and tricky eye-spy challenges.
Where was Tom Rusinow when I was a kid? As you’ll read in our May issue, this gregarious cottager hosted a boat rally for families in his island-cottage community. Cottagers teamed up to solve the clues and zip around their corner of Georgian Bay by boat, visiting various landmarks, performing crazy antics. By all reports it was a great day on the water.
The clues for the boat rally were designed by Tom’s friend, Mark Kent. Test yourself by trying out one of the puzzles that the rally’s competitors had to solve. Download a pdf of the puzzle The Games People Play—but be aware that the answers are on page 2, so don’t peek!
Also, I’m curious: Would you rather be a treasure hider or a treasure seeker, in the scavenger hunting business? Leave a comment below to weigh in.
