Guest post by Jackie Davis, assistant editor. The winner of our 2011 Caption Contest was announced in the just-released April 2012 issue. (Here is the photo, but see p. 23 of the issue for the winning caption.) It was a very close race, so I wanted to give a shout-out to the runners-up. (Runner-ups? Runners-ups? Whatever.)

Last supper? What do you mean, last supper? (Denise Hamilton, 100 Mile House, BC)

Don’t look at me like I’m nuts. (Beverley Smith, Toronto, Ont.)

I swear, I don’t know where he puts it… (Anna Cheung, Scarborough, Ont.)

And, my personal fave: So…come here often? (Jessica Slater, Waterdown, Ont.)

I love this last one because to me, the cat totally looks like it’s hitting on the chipmunk. Maybe it is: According to photographer Marc Mathieu, Mookie the cat (boy) and Jazzie the chipmunk (girl) have been close ever since the family adopted Mookie in September 2009. Marc writes, “Mookie understands when we tell him, ‘Be good to Jazzie,’ and in return, Jazzie shows absolutely no fear as she approaches him.”

Aww. It sounds like a relationship based on mutual respect and understanding. Maybe it’s just the post-Valentine’s Day fumes getting to my head, but I think those two crazy kids are gonna make it.
