Guest post by Liann Bobechko, senior associate editor. The other day, Bob Sexton—managing editor at Outdoor Canada magazine—and I had a visit from the folks at ThermaCell. They dropped in to tell us about a new product that is good news for those of us who suffer from cold feet. (I’m talking about the temperature of your tootsies—if you are chronically reluctant to make decisions, you’ll have to go elsewhere for help.)

ThermaCell’s heated insoles are operated via a wireless remote that looks something like a car key fob and is powered by rechargeable lithium-ion polymer batteries. It has settings for High, Medium, and No heat, and claims to boost your boots’ warmth by 25˚F. A single charge pours on the heat for five hours straight, and lasts longer if the heat is used intermittently.

The insoles aren’t cheap, at around $130 for one pair, but they can be recharged up to 500 times—which makes for many a warmer winter’s day at the lake. Recharge them on the way to the cottage if you buy the car charger too.

Available in Canada at Cabela’s and Bass Pro, the insoles come in five sizes (S, M, L, XL, and XXL). Trim them for a perfect fit.

Just don’t tell my mom. She may be finding a pair under the tree this year.
