It’s show booth time
When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a bruise
Guest post by Jackie Davis, assistant editor. I only use a hammer twice a year, and tomorrow, November 24, is one of those times. Explanation? My life as a Cottage Life editor doesn’t really require me to use a hammer much, except to help set up the art and editorial portion of the Cottage Life booth at the Fall Cottage Life Show, part of the Great Outdoors and DIY Weekend, Nov. 25-27. (The one other time I use a hammer is to set up for the Spring Cottage Life Show.)
I’m not great with the hammer. Actually, my skills are so poor that I had to get a special small one so I’d avoid hitting myself, or accidentally flinging it across the room and smashing stuff. Those things still happen, but the hammer is child-sized, so the results are less painful and destructive. Frankly, I don’t think I’m ever going to get any better, unless I practice, or start incorporating hammer use into my day-to-day routine. I could use it to bash open cans of soup, for example, or crack walnuts. Or fix a paper jam in the printer when I’m really angry.
Anyway, despite my poor hammer control, our booth always gets built and decorated, and I think it looks pretty good! So don’t forget to visit it this weekend at the show. It’s a chance to meet Penny Caldwell, buy great CL clothes and gifts, and check out back issues of the magazine. See you there!
