Santa, a tiger, and a zipline! Oh my!
9 Fun Things for Families at the Great Outdoors & DIY Weekend. Bring your kids, bring your camera!
The Great Outdoors & DIY Weekend is coming up at the end of the month! It’s an excellent family outing where the kids will have fun, you’ll get some holiday shopping done, and Santa will be there too! Kids 12 and under get in for free.
1. Kids Crooked Christmas Village
Explore the whimsical playhouses created by Kids Crooked House™. It’s a winter wonderland of imagination-filled playhouses designed for holiday fun! Santa will be at the show on Saturday and Sunday to hear holiday wishes. Bring your letter to Santa and we’ll make sure it gets back to the elves at the North Pole. And Mom and Dad… bring your camera for a free family photo opp with the jolly old soul himself!
2. Indoor Zipline
Take a high-flying adventure on our indoor zipline ! Designed and instructed by the qualified staff at Treetop Trekking, this is the first time an indoor zipline has been open to the public at a consumer show. It’s more than 100′ of adrenaline-pumping fun. FREE with show admission! (Sponsored by Subaru)
Minimum age: 9 years old
Minimum height: 55″ tall
Maximum weight: 250 lbs.
3. Ontario Family Fishing Zone
Calling all little lunkers! Come and catch a live fish in the trout pond – experienced guides will make sure every kid cathes (and releases!) a fish. Kids will also enjoy colouring, crafts, and activities just for junior anglers. Anglers of all ages can test their skills in the Rapala interactive fishing simulators. Plus, meet Leo Stakos and Ron James, hosts of Fish TV, North America’s premier fishing and destination show. (Sponsored by Ontario Tourism)
4. Meet Boston Rob
Do your kids watch Survivor or the Amazing Race? Reality-TV star will be at the show on Saturday, November 26.
Q&A presentation and fan challenge – 11 am
Meet & Greet and autograph session – 1 pm
5. Kids Corner Woodworking Area
Bring your kids to build their own desk book shelf. It’s a fun woodworking project using our tools and materials, and with expert supervision and instruction. Free with show admission, for ages 7 and up.
6. Kids Camping Zone
Let your little animals loose in our campsite, complete with tents, sleeping bags, and even a real (fake!) campfire. Parents can put up their feet and let the little ones get close to nature. (Sponsored by Coleman)
7. Get Wild!
The Endangered Species Fund of Canada makes an appearance at 2:30 pm each day to share their message of protection for species at risk and habitat preservation. Come get up close with a cougar, tiger, lemur, arctic wolf, and red tailed hawk.
8. Outdoor Dogs
For families who take their dogs camping or cottaging, hiking or hunting, get warm and fuzzy with some talented dogs that live for the outdoors. Learn training techniques for field dogs, first aid tips for Fido, and how to safely enjoy time outside with your best friend. Participants include the famous sled dogs from Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve, field dogs from Uplander Kennels, and retrievers from Oakridge Kennels.
9. Women of the Outdoors—Sunday, November 27, 11:30 am
We’re proud to present a panel of notable outdoors women from the world of hunting and fishing. Enjoy a panel discussion hosted by Patrick Walsh followed by a Meet & Greet and autograph session.
