He’s a lumberjack, and he’s okay…

Lumberjack Lego man works hard, plays hard.

September 23rd, 2011

Check out this cool Lego man! He’s wearing flannel. He comes with an axe and a beaver on his hat. According to his bio on the Lego website, “He builds his own log cabins, tends his own campfires, cooks his own stews and brews his own maple syrup. The only times he ever goes back to the big city are when he needs to drop off a load of freshly-cut lumber or buy a new cap because his last one got eaten by a bear.” He may be called a lumberjack, but I’d like to claim him as a cottager. Maybe he can be our mascot, here at Cottage Kids.

So that’s cool, but wait, it gets cooler! Turns out when they make Lego people, they sometimes model them after real people, and this handsome devil happens to be based on my colleague Derek’s friend, Kelly (if you look closely you can see it says “Kel” on his shirt above the pocket). Kelly grew up in Wawa, Ontario and has logged (sorry) many hours helping his dad as a lumberjack in the bush.

Derek says the little version of Kelly bears an uncanny resemblance to his real-life friend. In fact, when Kelly saw the figure, his comment to his friend who helps develop new lines of toys for Lego, he said “Why’d you have to make it so realistic? You even included my crowsfeet!” (They did, I checked.)

These days the large-as-life Kelly is a webcast producer in downtown Toronto, and while he is usually clad in jeans and a t-shirt, he doesn’t wear plaid all that much.

So, what do you say, are you a lumberjack at heart? Play the Tree Challenge game and see if you can beat my score of 25.

I know Kelly too, and it is remarkable how much that tiny little lumberjack looks like him.

I can't believe a Lego guy even has a plaid shirt! Where was he when I needed to borrow one?!

Great post Liann! I'll have to tell Kelly he's a blog celebrity now (in miniature form at least). That Tree Challenge game was kind of addictive too :^)
