2010 photo contest winners

Jessica Sinclair uses her photos to “document events and capture memories.” She was at her family’s cottage near Maniwaki, Que., when she snapped her teen cousins, Emilie and Mathieu, in the water on a sunny day. “She was pretending to be a lake monster, and he was trying to get away.”

Judges’ comments

Jessica’s photo really shows the fun they were having. This is like an underwater paparazzi shot. It’s great that you can see foreground (the hand), mid-ground (the boy), and background (the girl). The image works because the photographer got so close. Plus, details such as the sparkling bubbles and the sun-light streaming down make the scene lively.
