Opening up the cottage, still
Our cottage has survived its 75th winter. We are never sure what we’ll find until we get there, and this year, as you know, DH got there early. In fact, he has spent at least five nights there, on two separate occasions, though our cottage opening isn’t until next weekend. He tells me happily that the old place is in better shape than when we left it last fall. (Absence, no doubt, makes the heart grow fonder.)
It turns out this opening-up before opening-up isn’t an isolated event. I read in The Globe and Mail this morning that my boss, Al Zikovitz, the president and founder of Cottage Life, likes to open up the week before he opens up, so that on opening-up weekend (still with me?) he doesn’t “have someone yelling ‘I want water.’” Who knew?
Maybe this is opening-up weekend for you. (Or one of several…) Or maybe you’ve been going to the cottage all winter long. But all of us can celebrate the May long weekend, the unofficial opening of summer! And it didn’t come a moment too soon. We close the Cottage Life office early today. Hope you can get away soon, and beat the traffic, too.
