How to make a silhouette lampshade
An easy-to-make stylish accent
Lampshades offer lots of opportunity for creativity and are the perfect cottage accents.
- spray glue
- utility knife
- black construction paper
- low-watt light bulb (15w to 40w)
Step #1: Make a template for your lampshade by placing your lampshade on the construction paper. Starting at the seam, trace the bottom of the shade as you roll it. Roll it back in place as you trace the top of the shade.
Step #2: Take pre-drawn images and tape them to the shade angled towards the top leaving about 1 to 2 inches on the bottom of the template.
Step #3: Trace around the images and join them at the bottom.
Step #4: Remove the images and cut the silhouette out with a utility knife.
Step #5: Once you have your silhouette cut out, apply spray glue to one side.
Step #6: Place the silhouette glue-side down on the lampshade starting at the seam.
Step #7: Press the cutout down and coat the inside of the shade with an acrylic varnish.
Step #8: Place the shade on a low watt light bulb no higher than 40 watts, to prevent the adhesive from melting.
It doesn’t take much to recreate a popular cottage lampshade that will cast a silhouette of nature and a warm glow at the same time.
