Reusing old hockey sticks

In our Winter 2009 issue, we showed you how to make a coat rack using old hockey sticks. The project was a hit at our Fall Show, and lots of attendees seemed keen to tackle the rack themselves, and a few suggested improvements. One attendee mentioned they’d vary the stick lengths so that there are some low, kid-accessible hooks too.

But none of us had the bright idea of using hockey sticks to create a floor lamp, especially not one that looks like a piece of art:

This Shinny Floor Lamp by Canadian industrial designer Barr Gilmore has whimsy galore. I love the simple clean lines and, of course, the cheekiness factor: The “puck” on the cord houses the switch and the lamp comes in blue or red, to mimic the lines on the ice. (Although the Leafs fan in me sees the blue as representing something else.)
