There are no strangers here

Everyone loves the temporary staff at the Cottage Life Shows who, year after year, return from jobs and school to help us out at our spring and fall events. And it was only a matter of time before one of our most entertaining staffers would be “discovered.” The day came this past weekend at the Spring Cottage Life Show, where Brian, who as long-time show visitors know is larger than life – big hat, big voice, big jokes – was once again organizing people in the lineups before the show opened: this one if you have tickets; that one if you need tickets; and the one over there if you’re lining up for coffee at Tim Hortons. As always, he kept the cottagers laughing. Finally, one in the crowd piped up: “I wish you could be the MC at my family reunion this summer.” Well, why not? Little did she know that our intrepid line director is also the announcer at 42 summer fairs and horse shows across Ontario. And so this summer Brian has a new gig. Which just goes to show that, even though we greet some 30,000 cottagers over three days, it’s still possible to make a connection.
